Our Florida Keys to Brazil Leadership Semester explores one of the most beautiful countries in South America. As the host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, Brazil is most known as the home of the coastal megacities Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. Yet there is so much more to this country. With a land area, comparable to the continental U.S., Brazil ecosystems range from tropical range forests in the North to temperate forests and grass lands in the South. Beyond its diverse landscapes, Brazil is also believed to be home to the highest variety of animal species in the world. Due to its location in the Southern Hemisphere, Brazil has the opposite weather patterns as the United States, having it’s coolest weather from June to August, and warmest weather from December to January. Outward Bound has been running courses since the early 2000’s with the founding of Outward Bound Brazil, our host and local partner for this expedition. Outward Bound Brazil runs a variety of courses from Urban expeditions for Brazilian youth in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro, to corporate programs, to instructor development courses in Brazil’s many wilderness areas.
