Since 2001, over one million active duty service members have returned to civilian life and several hundred thousand more will return home over the next five years. These brave men and women bring with them great potential and valuable skill sets, but also enormous challenges. Their experiences in conflict zones can be so debilitating that some have lost touch with their strengths and lost confidence in themselves.
Since 1984, Hurricane Island Outward Bound has helped struggling vets confront their new reality through wilderness courses at no cost to them. These immersive, six-day experiences provide the vets an opportunity to slow life down, share stories and an adventure with their comrades in arms and allow then to realize that they are not alone in their daily struggle to give context and meaning to their service and to their lives ahead. We are honored to positively impact veteran's lives, moving them on their path to regain confidence in their own humanity.
How can we show our thanks for the sacrifice made by our brave servicewomen and men?
Every dollar donated goes directly to benefit a veteran on a Hurricane Island Outward Bound School course, allowing them to attend at absolutely no cost.
