“I could only have gone on this amazing experience because of your support—that’s why I thank you so much for the help. You’re doing something meaningful to all of us. You rock.”
— André, 18, 2014 alumnus
For more than 50 years now, Hurricane Island Outward Bound School has offered life-changing Outward Bound courses for students of all ages and from all walks of life. As a 501(c)3 non-profit school, we also manage a robust scholarship program that provides ours students with more than $600,000 each year—from our own donors as well as from partnering community organizations, foundations and corporate donors—in tuition support.
The goal of our scholarship program is to ensure that no student is turned away because of an inability to pay tuition. To achieve that in 2015, we depend on the generosity of the HIOBS community to raise $100,000 for our Discovery Award program (formerly the Student Opportunity Fund), through which qualifying students receive tuition support to give them the opportunity to complete an Outward Bound course.
Foundations, corporate sponsors and community groups provide a significant portion of support for all our programs, but about $100,000 of financial support for our students is only available through the generosity of the HIOBS community. We were honored to announce last fall that two generous donors had pledged to match any gift made for the scholarship program, up to $25,000. As of today, with their pledges, we are more than halfway to our goal of raising $100,000 for 2015 scholarships for students in need of financial assistance.
But we’re not there yet. In order to be available for students completing a course in 2015, we need to reach this goal by April 1. You can help us by making a gift of any size right now at www.hiobs.org/give/scholarship. We hope you join us in making Outward Bound available to all in 2015.
