Outward Bound’s mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery.
Our mission is predicated on the belief that values are experienced concretely rather than taught abstractly; that when the makeup of a crew crosses racial, economic, or religious lines differences are celebrated, appreciated, and valued.
It is predicated on the belief that we seek, embrace, and value adventure and the lifelong adventure of learning.
More resilient and compassionate individuals. A more resilient and compassionate world.
We seek nothing less than to improve the lives of the students, parents, partners and the communities we serve and to approach every opportunity and challenge living our values of excellence, integrity, inclusion, and above all, compassion . . . every day.
Our Strategic Framework
At its core a strategic plan is an expression that weaves together organizational confidence in its mission, a commitment to vitality and change, and a strong vision for the future. At its best, a strategic plan lays out a focused blueprint that turns that expression into reality.
With support from our community, and a renewed and collective focus, HIOBS will endure and continue to be a leader in character education for another 60 years by focusing on the following:
Continuing to hone and refine our traditional Wilderness Programs through staffing and basecamp modernization and improvements.
Expanding our network of community partnerships which will broaden and deepen the impact of our mission through collaborative, longitudinal relationships.
Staying true to HIOBS roots around maintaining access to all students who seek character growth through challenge and adventure, including a strengthened focus on students who have not traditionally had access HIOBS opportunities due to economic status, or social and racial inequity.
