Make a Lasting Impact

Creating a legacy gift enables you to make a long-lasting impact on the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School and the students we serve from across the country and beyond.
Since 1964, HIOBS has pioneered experiential outdoor education and changed the lives of countless students. Our approach to learning, team building, and personal growth have never been more important or relevant. With unwavering support from our community, HIOBS continues to rise to new challenges, meet the critical needs of our youth, and cultivate compassionate and resilient leaders for the future.
Let your generosity live on by becoming a part of our educational legacy.

I feel a responsibility now to carry all of the invaluable lessons Outward Bound has taught me. How can I leave and go out into the world unchanged after learning so much? I will return a new man. With more humility, kindness, strength, and confidence.

Planned Giving Options

There are many ways to plan a legacy gift while also taking advantage of potential tax savings and maintaining flexibility if your circumstances change.
See below for some of the most common vehicles you might consider.

BEQUESTS

Adding a provision to your will or trust is a simple way to make a legacy gift. After taking care of loved ones, you can designate a percentage of your estate or a specific sum. A bequest may reduce estate tax. It also gives you flexibility. No other planned gift is as simple to make or as easy to modify as your life circumstances change. If you wish to add a gift to Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in your existing will or trust, contact the attorney who drafted your estate plans and request a simple amendment or addendum.

BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS

Not everyone wants to commit to making a gift in their will or estate plan. Some people prefer the increased flexibility of a beneficiary designation through retirement plans, life insurance, or donor-advised funds. It is very simple to name Hurricane Island Outward Bound School as a beneficiary.  Start by requesting a change-of-beneficiary form from your policy administrator or download the form from your provider's website. Make your desired changes and return the form to establish your gift.

CHARITABLE TRUSTS

If you have built a sizable estate, making a legacy gift through a Charitable Trust may allow you to give more than you thought possible. A Charitable Trust can help you make the most of your existing assets and resources, while also providing tangible financial benefits for you and your family—today and in the future.
