What is an Outward Bound Professional Program? At the heart of every Outward Bound experience is the philosophy of learning by doing, placing yourself and your team in unfamiliar environments, requiring cooperation, teamwork, leadership, and communication. Following periods of activity, we will ask you and your team to reflect on your actions and discuss what you have learned in order to develop new skills and tools, a deeper understanding of individual and team strengths, and an awareness of the areas where the team can improve both performance and results. You may also find that the experience offers insights that are relevant to your personal life.
What will we be doing? During your program, you will be engaged in a variety of challenges used as vehicles for learning and positive change. Some of the activities may be physically strenuous for you. We plan all of our activities with a wide variety of physical abilities in mind and will ask that you participate at the level that makes sense for you. Please be sure to refer to the CLOTHING AND GEAR tab to ensure you bring clothing that will keep you warm and comfortable.

What if I have medical concerns and activity limitations? We are committed to including people of all abilities and health conditions. Depending on your individual situation, there will be some activities in which you can participate fully and others that might require you to take a more limited role.
Alcohol and Tobacco: In keeping with legal, safety, health, and ethical considerations, these substances are not allowed on our programs. If you are a smoker, please check-in with your facilitators when you arrive. They will make arrangements for you to smoke in designated spots when appropriate.
Please wear or bring the following as you will be outside for 3 – 4 hours:
2 pairs of comfortable close-toed shoes: (1) a waterproof, insulated boot for the outdoors and (2) comfortable indoor shoes or slippers.
Loose-fitting synthetic pants
1 t-shirt (synthetic)
1 long sleeve shirts (synthetic)
Long underwear top and bottom
2 pair of socks and other undergarments
1-2 warm sweaters or synthetic (fleece) pullovers
Warm winter outerwear, suitable for snow (coat and pants)
Sunscreen and lip balm (SPF 15 minimum)
Sunglasses
Sun visor or baseball cap
1 warm hat and gloves
Water bottle
Small day pack to carry extra layers and accessories during the day
No linens or pillows are provided. Please bring:
A sleeping bag or sheets and blanket
Pillow
Towel
Toiletry kit
Optional:
Camera or phone (for photos), ideally in a waterproof case
Watch, preferably waterproof
What to pack in your daypack:
Extra layers of clothing
Outerwear, hat, and gloves
A full water bottle
Sunscreen and sunglasses
Journal and pen/pencil (provided)
Flashlight (provided)
Medicine (as needed)
Camera or phone (optional)
Outward Bound Professional is able to provide limited gear (e.g. sleeping bags, fleece pullovers) if needed. Please email Sarah at [email protected] to request what you need.
Important Info
Please note these important reminders:
Cash and Valuables: Please do not bring large amounts of cash or valuable jewelry on the program since we cannot be responsible for the loss of or damage to valuables.
Cell Phones: Plan on detaching from work completely. Cell phone coverage will be spotty to non-existent. Please let people know that you will be out of touch for all of your program time. Feel free to take out your phone during the program if you are using it to take pictures! If you MUST use your phone for communication purposes, please quietly move to an area where your cell phone usage will not distract others.
